Cardiac Services

Follow your heart with a career at Washington Hospital Center

As one of the naftions' top cardiac hospitals, Washington Hospital Center is home to one of the busiest cardiac catheterization labs on the East Coast, and is a leader in the area in open-heart surgeries and heart transplants. With the high volume of patients we receive, caring for the high-risk patient becomes the norm, so when you're looking to grow your career, the Hospital Center is the perfect setting for specialized professional development.

Our Cardiac Surgery team provides an interdisciplinary approach to patients with heart ailments, from admission to discharge. Cardiologist, cardiac surgeon and patient meet together to devise the best course of action on a case-by-case basis, resulting in exceptional success in critical care situations. In the recovery phase, physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists and techs are united in the goal of providing efficient and knowledgeable care to our patients. Last year, the Hospital Center performed more than 1,800 open heart surgeries and five heart transplants.

Although surgery is a frequent solution to heart ailments, our Cardiology Program works carefully, to determine if a problem can be resolved or health risk can be averted in a non-invasive manner. Our Cardiology Program consists of a network of non-invasive and interventional cardiologists, in practices located throughout the metropolitan area.

We employ electrophysiologists and echocardiographers to work with radiologists and specialists in nuclear cardiology, to evaluate patients correctly and thoroughly. Specialized cardiologists then implement the optimal level of treatment. Last year, the Hospital Center performed more than 14,900 cardiac catheterizations and more than 5,300 electrophysiology procedures.
