About Our Transplant Programs

Transplantation Services at MedStar Washington Hospital Center is the largest and busiest kidney and kidney/pancreas transplantation program in the Washington metropolitan area.  Our surgeons have been performing transplants since 1974, and have perfected minimally-invasive techniques for transplantation.

To date we have performed:

• 3086 kidney or kidney/pancreas transplants
• 1180 living donor transplants
• Average 116 transplants yearly since 2000
• Average of 64 living donors yearly 2000

Our program offers a state-of-the-art facility, as well as aggressive treatment plans for complex patients.  Our team is trained to perform thorough transplant candidate and donor (living & deceased) assessments, making our survival rates are among the best in the nation.
